If you pop your vitamins first thing in the morning, you may want to rethink that strategy. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic found that patients who took a vitamin D supplement with their biggest meal of the day boosted their levels of the bone builder by more than 50 percent. Because it’s fat-soluble, pairing D with a large meal – which typically contains more than a smaller one – increases your absorption of the vitamin. Some experts recommend taking at least 1000 IU a day of vitamin D, which helps prevent osteoporosis, high blood pressure and cancer.
